Daniel Bell / Squirrel Bait

A1 Squirrel Bait
B1 Phreak Yo Body
B2 Superminimal

This one pushed my spend on Dan Bell records to a touch above excessive (after purchasing just a couple). Well worth every hard earned penny though. Phreak Yo Body is actually my favourite on this record and just highlights for me the fact that Dan Bell deserves a lot more attention than he gets. Now all I need is Baby Judy and my life will be complete. Better start saving…

John Tejada & Justin Maxwell / Madness

A Madness
B Mind Bend

All the usual punchiness of a JT track with the bounce you’d expect from the early 00s (six years ago already!!). For me the kind of sound I associate with Tokyo. Dan Bell makes a guest vocal appearance on Mind Bend to support the US techno massive, fighting to not be forgotten after the European hijack at the start of the millennium.

Plastikman / Disconnect

Plastikman / Disconnect
(http://www.discogs.com/Plastikman-Disconnect/release/190166)

A1 Headcase
A2 Disconnect (Edit)
B1 Digital/Divide

NovaMute pressing of Plastikman Disconnect. Short, sweet and to the point. Love the rolling bassline and the dark vocals. Headcase is more classic Richie, simple yet effective.

Plastikman / Spastik

Plastikman / Spastik
(http://www.discogs.com/Plastikman-Spastik/master/37372)

A1 Spastik
AA1 Helicopter
AA2 Gak (Remix)

Add another 90s Hawtin classic onto the heap. Amazing intro on this track, its not until about five minutes in you realise your fist has been pumping of its own accord for the best part. True minimal percussion at its best. Double A side annotation well deserved on this record too, with Helicopter another minimal slow burner and Gak (Remix) an absolute crazy head shaker not long from the start.

Cybersonik / Backlash
(http://www.discogs.com/Cybersonik-Backlash/release/49693)

A1 Backlash
AA1 Revelation 928
AA2 Lash Out

Richie Hawtin, Dan Bell and John Acquaviva going at it rave style on the Champion issuing of a Plus 8 record. Long decay on the hihat deep whirring bassline and vocal screams to get warehouse walls rattling in the industrial area of any Canadian city. Double A side comes complete with early 90s sci-fi(esque) sampling.

Subvoice / Vampirella (DBX Remixes)

Subvoice / Vampirella (DBX Remixes)

A1 Vampirella (Motorcityweakedoutfunkdub)
B1 Vampirella (InsanelikeColtranemix)
B2 Vampirella (Phreakapella)

Was planning to post in chronological order of purchase but this just arrived in the post today and has absolutely floored me. I vomited in my mouth with excitement a minimum of 7 times while listening to it just now. InsanelikeColtranemix is, as the name suggests, absolutely insane and Motorcityweakedoutfunkdub is just as out of control. Look out for the handclaps.

Shackleton / Blood on my Hands (Ricardo Villalobos Apocalypso Now Mix)

Shackleton / Blood on my Hands (Ricardo Villalobos’ Apocalypso Now Mix)

A1 Blood on my Hands (Ricardo Villalobos’ Apocalypso Now Mix) Part 1
B1 Blood on my Hands (Ricardo Villalobos’ Apocalypso Now Mix) Part 2

You’d be hard pressed to find anything deeper, darker or more sinister than Villalobos remixing Shackleton. Listen to this on a Funktion One at 10 am in the morning and you will realise that the brown note is much more than a theoretical frequency, it’s a way of life.

Villalobos / Fizheuer Zieheuer
(http://www.discogs.com/Villalobos-Fizheuer-Zieheuer/release/1357876)

A1 Fizheuer Zieheuer Pt. 1
B1 Fizheuer Zieheuer Pt. 2

Can’t believe it’s already four years since this was released. Compulsory purchase. Twenty seven minutes and nine seconds of Ricardo taking the build up to the next level. Not to be played without the supervision of a qualified professional.

Robotman / Do Da Doo (Remixes)

A1 Do Da Doo (Plastikman’s Acid House Remix)
B1 Do Da Doo (Exploding Plastic Mix)
B2 Do Da Doo (Drum Dub)

Can’t really go wrong with Richie Hawtin remixing his esteemed contemporary and equal, Richie Hawtin. Initially picked it up for the acid house remix but was treated to a nice surprise when the record arrived in the post and the drum dub turned out to be an absolute gem in its own right. Notch yet another one up for the B-sides.

baby ford - fetish

A1 Fetish (Mainmix)
B1 Fetish (Eons Alternative Mix)
B2 Fetish (Minimal)

Tad more intense than I usually go in for but this is the record that has kicked off my collection. Bought it for the B-side minimal mix, the cover art, and the Baby Ford name.
