Phuture / Rise From Your Grave

Phuture / Rise From Your Grave

A1 Rise From Your Grave (Wake Da F___ Up Mix)
A2 Rise From Your Grave (Wild Pitch Mix)
B1 Rise From Your Grave (Hard Head Mix)
B2 Rise From Your Grave (London Radio Edit)

Wake Da F___ Up Mix and Wild Pitch Mix are the two that do it for me on this record. Nice sampling of an older Phuture track, Your Only Friend, a Trax Records 12″ which I vow to one day add to my collection. I can’t help but think that the world would’ve been a better place if Roy Davis Jr. had moved to Detroit in the 90s and hung out with the locals.

Tyree Featuring Chic / I Fear The Night

A I Fear The Night (Subterranean Mix)
B I Fear The Night (Fear The Dub Mix)

This is my current favourite Chicago record. This record has all the hallmarks of an 80s house classic: slightly flat vocals, cowbell overdose and repeated use of the word “jack”. Underground can pretty much do no wrong when it comes to releases. Thankfully they managed to get a timeless track out of Tyree Cooper before his Hip House phase. Jack on the box!

Adonis / No Way Back

Adonis / No Way Back
(http://www.discogs.com/Adonis-No-Way-Back/release/27332)

A No Way Back (Vocal)
B No Way Back

One of the major records that helped kick off my late 80s Chicago house and more specifically Trax Records addiction. It is not possible to dislike this bassline. Not humanly possible. No matter how many times I listen I still cannot get over the fact this was created in the 80s. On one hand it knocks me off my feet to realise how ahead of its time Chicago was, on the other it makes me a little depressed to see how little music has changed in over 20 years.

Daniel Bell / Squirrel Bait

A1 Squirrel Bait
B1 Phreak Yo Body
B2 Superminimal

This one pushed my spend on Dan Bell records to a touch above excessive (after purchasing just a couple). Well worth every hard earned penny though. Phreak Yo Body is actually my favourite on this record and just highlights for me the fact that Dan Bell deserves a lot more attention than he gets. Now all I need is Baby Judy and my life will be complete. Better start saving…
